This is Eleanor Friedberger’s first solo album after recording eight with her brother Matthew as Fiery Furnaces. Her distinctive voice — especially how Eleanor speeds and slows her words’ tempos, makes it harder to separate her solo work from her FF discography. But this song has a wholesome, hand clap groove and steady melody. There are some interesting and wacky instrumental choices on “My Mistakes,” but each new sound is introduced gradually and given time to recreate the main melody so they don’t feel jarring or out-of-place. Last Summer is out 4/12 via Merge.

Excellent track.

cool song
This is a breath of fresh air. I love FF but have been waiting for the day this lady has a chance at the solo thing! Makes summer smell even sweeter.
Exciting. Going straight on my summer 2011 compilation.
This song kind of reminds me of the well done, infectious, quirky pop of early Roxy Music ( with Eno of course)
The sax solo at the end is refreshing. This is my favorite song right now. Cheers to Eleanor Friedberger. You have a new fan.
