Shearwater and Minus Story affiliate (BTW Class of ’08) multi-instrumental singer/songwriter Jordan Geiger has made a second collection of songs under his Hospital Ships moniker, titled Lonely Twin and due this summer. “Reprise” is one if its energetic singles — think Ben Gibbard fronting an uplifting field song dressed in the rousing, blasted fuzz of Neutral Milk Hotel’s “Holland, 1945″ — and its video is set to Jordan’s home movies, “spanning roughly 1948-1981.” Nostalgia:

Take it:

Lonely Twin is out 6/7 via Graveface.

  1. “Lonely Twin” is the best album I’ve bought this year (apologies to R.E.M., but , really).
Fresh, solid songwriting, well-performed … it gets better every time I listen to it, and I listen to it a lot.
Check out the videos for “Reprise” (above … homey & retro cool) and “Galaxies” (bizarre little flick).
Some of the songs are subtle as a wisp (“Phanton Limb”), some are about as subtle as log chain in a wood chipper, but there isn’t a throwaway among them.
