Last night The Colbert Report started the week-long concert series “Dr Pepper Presents StePhest Colbchella ’011: Rock You Like a Thirst-icane” with Bon Iver. Justin Vernon spoke/joked with Colbert about “the Bon Iver legend,” the downward bird, and his reasoning for Minoring in Women’s Studies before performing Bon Iver‘s “Calgary.” There’s also a web exclusive of an expanded-band take on For Emma, Forever Ago‘s “Skinny Love.”

I idolize Justin and love the new album to death, but the performance of calgary was very subpar. He rushed the vocals and then the bass saxophone or whatever it was vomited all over the place. I think he was nervous and it’s a bunch of new people that are still trying to find a balance. Hope he gets it together by the time he hits Boston.
you’re an idiot. “get’s it together”…Vernon has it together. I promise.
This was very good. Colin Stetson is very good. Justin Vernon is very good. Just very good all around. You can tell that Colbert thinks it’s very good. Good.
