Disney put together a compilation called The Green Album for the next Muppets Movie. It includes Muppets-related covers by folks like Weezer (of course), Andrew Bird, Sondre Lerche, and My Morning Jacket, who take on “Our World,” a song that first appeared in Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas back in 1977, a year that includes a whole lot of history. MMJ bassist Tom Blankenship, a big Emmet fan, says that as a kid “Our World” was “our yearly reminder that the world outside the perpetual TV glow of that wood-paneled basement was a lot more welcoming, that strangers were a dying breed, that adventure was ripe for the taking if you left your heart open and let folks in.” You can hear the song, and read more of Blankenship’s thoughts, at SPIN.
