After 13 years Rilo Kiley have broken up, basically citing irreconcilable differences. As disgruntled guitarist Blake Sennett told Spinner:
I just felt like there was a lot of deception, disloyalty, greed and things I don’t really want to submit myself to. I had related that frustration to music but I just thought, ‘I’m not going to put myself in that position again,’ so I said, ‘Fuck that, I can’t do this anymore.’
What he can do anymore is put together a 40 song compilation of the band’s unreleased material to serve as a sort of end-cap to the project. More info on that and other things at NME.

i expected them to release a few more things after being signed to warner. I thought a nice fat paycheck would’ve motivated them (not really). You could already see the tensions in 07s under the blacklight. the side projects won’t be the same. feels good to be freeee

I don’t understand why they don’t just replace Jenny Lewis, if she seem to be too busy/diva-esque. I even have a suggestion, Cary Ann Hearst. Who sounds a hell of a lot like Lewis and can really write. I loved her EP last year and can’t wait to see what she does next. Don’t get me wrong, I love Jenny Lewis (solo and J&J) but bands change members all the time. Like Fleetwood Mac…

good riddance, I say. just because Ms. Lewis is wicked hot people cut them slack for being pretty sucky. I understand to a point, but they were always just a bit too precious for me. and I just hate the name “Rilo Kiley”, god it’s so annoying to even type it.
