I sort of can’t believe I’m typing this, but Ryan Adams has been straight killing it lately; his new songs “Lucky Now” and “Ashes & Fire” and his Iron Maiden cover are all varying degrees of great. And now here comes another song from the forthcoming album Ashes & Fire, and it’s great too. “Invisible Riverside” is a laid-back, amber-hued classic-rock thing, and it got played on KCRW over the weekend. Now it’s on Soundcloud; listen below:

He did this at a lot of the shows on the solo European tour this summer… the setlists at those shows by the way were absolutely insane. So much great, forgotten material, old Whiskeytown stuff, tons of Heartbreaker, just the best – he’s really getting it together.
Surprised? Come on, we all know Ryan Adams could kill it.
I didn’t know! Or I didn’t know he still had it in him, anyway. Blame seven years at Pitchfork.
Is Easy Tiger not excellent?
I guess I’m gonna have to find out, huh?
No pressure.
Just read about the Stephen Stills box set in the works, compiled by Graham Nash, and with that in mind, this tune has got me in a CSN state of mind. Only one degree of separation there, given Chris Stills has worked with Ryan in the past. Very much in that 70′s California folk rock vein.
