Imagine if Dario Argento’s ’70s horror movies had weird half-animated opening-credits sequences with girls’ silhouettes in them, the way James Bond movies do. That’s pretty much Opeth’s new “The Devil’s Orchard” video, except this one is seven minutes long. In super-stylized fake-grainy images, we see cities falling under curses and bodies falling through dimensional portals, or something. Phil Mucci directs. Watch it below.

Opeth’s progged-out new album Heritage is out now on Roadrunner.

dislike – sounds Godsmack and Puddle of Mudd had a baby, an ugly baby
I WISH Godsmack and Puddle of Mudd had sounded like this.
That being said, I’m still not all that into this. I get the 70s prog influences and all that, but I feel like the vocals are to generic and safe compared to the music. It puts me off to the rest of it, unfortunately.
This record is by far the best one I’ve heard in years!
I can do nothing but admire the bravery and attitude of Mikael Åkerfeldt.
Opeth and Radiohead are very much alike in that way!
it’s like they’ve taken the ‘ tales of the unexpected’ title sequence, thrown in some Rick Wakeman keyboard riffs and prog-rocked the whole thing with some futuristic ‘psychedelia’ , not a bad thing
WOW. OPETH HAS COMPLETELY CHANGED THEIR STYLE. FROM PROG-INFLECTED METAL TO…WELL, PROG. THEIR LAST ALBUM HAD SCOTT WALKER’S “DRIFT” INFLUENCE ALL OVER IT AND THIS ONE, THIS ONE IS KIND OF LIKE FLOWER TRAVELLIN BAND AS FRONTED BY MIKAEL.
WHAT A SURPRISE !
