A little while back, we reported that Jack White was part of an all-star lineup that Q Magazine had put together for an all-star tribute to U2′s Achtung Baby. That landmark album, like so many other landmark albums, turns 20 this year, and Q’s tribute, regrettably titled AHK-toong BAY-bi, features some inspired pairings (Nine Inch Nails doing “Zoo Station” the Killers doing “Ultraviolet (Light My Way)”), and some, uh, not-inspired pairings (Snow Patrol doing “Mysterious Ways”, Gavin Friday doing “The Fly”).
One of the weirder cover choices is Jack White’s noise-blues rendition of the quiet, thoughtful “Love Is Blindness.” Listen to a radio rip of it below.
Here’s the AHK-toong BAY-bi tracklist.
01 Nine Inch Nails – “Zoo Station”
02 U2 – “Even Better Than The Real Thing (Jacques Lu Cont Mix)”
03 Damien Rice – “One”
04 Patti Smith – “Until The End Of The World”
05 Garbage – “Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses”
06 Depeche Mode – “So Cruel”
07 Snow Patrol – “Mysterious Ways”
08 The Fray – “Trying To Throw Your Arms Around The World”
09 Gavin Friday – “The Fly”
10 The Killers – “Ultraviolet (Light My Way)”
11 Glasvegas – “Acrobat”
12 Jack White – “Love Is Blindness”

Neat! I’m pretty sure the world needs more U2 covers. Yes, I’m pretty sure…
Um, if that’s what they sound like then the answer is yes. You’re gross.
yeah this sounds f-in brilliant, more jack white solos, less edge solos
official comment from a U2 Superfan and Jackwhite obsessive: This is all things that are good. I am foaming at the mouth for this comp.

The Damien Rice “One” cover is out for listen, subtle but nice. I’m itchin to hear my boys from Basildon’s take on “So Cruel”
