Over the weekend, Lana Del Rey performed a stripped down version of new single “Born To Die” poolside at L.A. celeb temple Chateau Marmont during a party sponsored by L.A. fashion label Mulberry. Check it out after the jump.

Too bad the song didn’t come out last year or it would have nicely fit on the soundtrack of Somewhere, Sofia Copolla’s ode to pretty people being bummed that rang a little hollow.

Remember when she said that the video for this song is going to star a tiger and be “controversial”? It is controversial before anyone has seen it? Come on. I can imagine some record label executive feeding these statements to her.

No doubts, she can sing, and the song is really good, not like the cheesiest song of the year, ‘videogames’. But she’s playing the ‘weird girl’ role and that is kind of boring. There are too many of them.
