James Mercer

We’ve already heard a bunch of songs from the new Shins comeback album Port Of Morrow: “Simple Song,” “The Rifle’s Spiral,” an acoustic version of “It’s Only Life,” and, most relevant to this post, the lovely and lilting “September.” Shins frontman and sole permanent member James Mercer played an acoustic version of that last one in a session for the Portland radio station KINK (seriously, those are its call letters), and we’ve got video of it below.

Port Of Morrow is out 3/20 on Columbia/Aural Apothecary. And yes, I do realize full well that Mercer is making one hell of a poopface in that screencap.

  1. The funny part is that this lame-ass station doesn’t even play the music of The Shins, let alone some of the more independent bands they have do these sessions. Look for the one with Iron & Wine, where the host asks about how cool it must have been to play on The Tonight Show……and then continues to want to talk about it while Sam Beam sits there trying not to have a “what the fuck am I doing here?” look on his face.

  2. Soo excited for the new album, the video for “Simple Song” is really great
