Spiritualized - Sweet Heart Sweet Light

This has been a pretty great morning for long, sprawling, multi-part songs! First, there was the excellent 13-minute version of the Gorillaz/James Murphy/Andre 3000 track “DoYaThing.” Now, there’s this.

British drug-rock eminences Spiritualized are on their way back with the new album Sweet Heart Sweet Light, their first full-length since Songs In A&E four years ago. The image above is its slightly confounding album cover. And below, you’ll find a stream of the stretched-out nine-minute album track “Hey Jane,” which sounds like classic Spiritualized in all the best ways possible.

Sweet Heart Sweet Light is out 4/17 on Fat Possum.

  2. wow….that kinda sucked first listen.

  3. …….but got better and better with consecutive plays.

  5. This sounds like Spiritualized by-the-numbers but it’s so bouncy that I can’t help but get caught up in it. I agree with Captain Queso that after the five minute mark it gets a bit much but I still like it. The ending would be great if it was two minutes earlier.

  6. So I guess I was the only one that smiled so big 3 minutes in and then screamed in joy and didn’t stop smiling until the song perfectly ended?

  7. Good song, album cover worthy of Lonely Island

  8. Good Song. I will be checking out the album.

  9. If the length and title aren’t a reference to Hey Jude, I’ll be damned.

  10. “Jack is in his corset, and Jane is in her vest,
And me I’m in a rock’n'roll band Hah!” – Lou Reed (like I needed to say that)
