Last week, the Mountain Goats took part in the Ecstatic Music Festival, a New York event that exists somewhere on the border between indie rock and classical music. Mountain Goats frontman John Darnielle was there to debut music from a new project called Transcendental Youth, and he had some help: The classical music vocal quartet Anonymous 4 and violin-shredder Owen Pallett, who toured with the Mountain Goats a couple of years ago. Right now, you can stream an exceptionally clear 90-minute recording of the entire concert, which starts out with Anonymous 4 performing sans Darnielle, at NPR (via Pitchfork).

This is so great – not mentioned in the article is that Darnielle sings some Mountain Goats classics and rarities too.
He goes in heavy on We Shall All Be Healed. It’s awesome.
