Stream Nite Fields Depersonlisation (Stereogum Premiere)
No one can question Nite Fields’ commitment to gloominess. In the past two months, the Australian four-piece have released three rainy post-punk singles (“You I Never Knew,” “Prescription” and “Winter’s Gone“). Even the album art for the band’s American debut LP, Depersonlisation, is stark, blurry and binary. It’s fitting, then, that the rest of Depersonlisation is just as foggy; the quartet recorded these nine tracks, all written by broody vocalist Danny Venzin, in stairwells, garages and closed-down restaurants. Yet there’s a sweetness here that cozies up their sound to swirling dream pop, especially on the Cocteau-recalling “Pay For Strangers.” Skittering drums, opaque guitar layers and persistent bass rumbles thicken up the music, letting it linger like smoke in an empty parlor. Depersonlisation’s coldness is only a front for its hidden warmth. Find the full album stream below.
