The big-deal Welsh dance duo Overmono, made up of brothers Tom and Ed Russell, will release their new album Pure Devotion later this summer, and we already posted lead single "Lockup." Yesterday, they followed that track with the thumping, hypnotic "Even Angels Ghost," their latest team-up with the Tennessee-based singer Kindora.
According to a press release, Overmono found Kindora's music while clicking around on Bandcamp, and they sampled her on their 2022 tracks "Gunk" and "Cold Blooded," the latter of which appeared on their 2023 debut album Good Lies. Tom Russell says, "We're always drawn towards a particular tone in vocals, and hers is pretty much like the pinnacle." Those samples led to a real friendship between Overmono and Kindora, and they worked together directly on "Even Angels Ghost," with the duo phasing her vocals in and out of their track.
Kindora says, "'Even Angels Ghost' is me being vulnerable and doing boy math as per usual. I am a very outgoing but also extremely shy person, and I get in my head about every interaction. But when I’m with Overmono, I feel like I’m the third brother. They really are the best. I love working with them. I really appreciate their artistry and commitment to making good music." Pure Devotion is out 8/7 on XL.
