Wavves Shares “Way Too Much,” Fights With His Label
Nathan Williams has been so busy with various side projects over the last year — from his Cloud Nothings collab to bro trio Spirit Club to beat alter ego Sweet Valley — that I almost forgot he was set to release an album under his original moniker as well. But now we have what looks like it could be the lead single to the upcoming Wavves full-length, which is supposed to come out sometime this year. It’s called “Way Too Much” and it kinda fucking rocks, basically a Blink-182 song without all the corniness. His last full-length was 2013’s underrated Afraid Of Heights. Check it out via Pitchfork below.
UPDATE: Apparently Williams released the song early without his label’s permission. Warner Bros. wanted to pull the song, but he protested via a series of frustrated tweets, threatening to leak the entire album if they took it down. And it looks like Williams wins this round: “Way Too Much” will remain on Spotify, and it’ll be officially released via iTunes on Monday. Read the tweets below.

UPDATE 2: Williams has now put the song on SoundCloud (we’ve embedded it above in lieu of the original Spotify) and revealed the album artwork in another series of frustrated tweets directed at Warner Bros. Check those out below. The album is titled V.
