TV On The Radio @ McCarren Pool, Brooklyn 7/29/07

Awesome as it was to see TV On The Radio for free at McCarren Pool (thank you, Jelly), the bigger story on Sunday was the crazy rain, and how it probably was the best thing to happen for the show's overall enjoyability. Pouring all morning, lightning at 2PM, thundering for hours more, Mother Nature played a tough doorperson and kept the crowd size in check -- by keeping away the kids afraid of a wasted trip and the guys afraid of getting their womens' jeans wet. Of course the show still was packed, but at least everybody got in (unlike that Boredoms madness). The folks that came out held their tarps courageously, as they walked into that wet place ... to find that, by the time Kyp and co. hit the stage, there was just a fine mist -- and an even finer band, ready to rock socks. "Good news, good news!" Tunde said under his breath, smiling after a few minutes of his patented forearm roundabouts. "Province," "Wolf Like Me," "Young Liars" out of the way early, closing on a spirit-raising (and nearly climatologically accurate) trek through "Staring At The Sun," TV On The Radio totally left us moist. And so did the rain.

Sad these pool parties are ending? We know, sucks. But there are still a few more to catch this year: Blonde Redhead/I'm From Barcelona 8/5, Ted Leo/The Thermals/Birds Of Avalon 8/12, and Ghostland Observatory/Yacht 8/19. Check the schedule here, and take the jump for a few more TV pics.
