New Death Cab For Cutie Video - "No Sunlight"

DCFC's third Narrow Stairs video is for bouncy, upbeat "No Sunlight," the album's most obvious single contender. This clip imagines the song's title literally, inviting us on the night vision journey of a young boy through his neighborhood of like-minded daysleepers. The band's not in it, but we do meet night owls doing errands and playing sports as the protagonist bikes to a beach bonfire. As sunrise approaches, all the partygoers bolt for the indoors. Maybe everyone suffers from solar urticaria. More likely they're all vampires because everything's about goddamn vampires these days.

Death Cab Bring Lame Costumes To Tonight Show

thumbnail: Death Cab Bring Lame Costumes To Tonight Show

While you were out dressed like Ashley Todd or Barack Obama as a Mac Genius, Death Cab donned some lower-key disguises for their Friday night appearance on the Leno show -- Nick Harmer as Zack Galifianakis, Ben Gibbard as a man with a 31" waist and cheekbones, etc. Oh right, that's just what they look like these days ... so then it was just a Halloween-free Halloween performance in L.A. for those old lovers of L.A.. (Really guys, how about at least an oversized scorpion on stage?) The song is "Cath...," the sound is good, and the onstage movement not very screengrab friendly.

Ben Gibbard Attacked By Scorpion

thumbnail: Ben Gibbard Attacked By Scorpion

That's correct, the incredibly shrinking Death Cab For Cutie frontman got stung by a scorpion last night in San Diego. Not just once: The bugger (the scorpion) came back for seconds. In a blog post titled "These Things Happen" -- "file this under 'things that really happen on rock tours...'" -- Nick Harmer has the details including this: "A scorpion was honestly the last thing we could imagine that would come scurrying out of [Ben's] pants." Much more surprising than say ... a tour banana. Here:

Death Cab Bring "Cath..." To Conan

thumbnail: Death Cab Bring "Cath..." To Conan

Last night, taking a break from his Jenny Lewis duties, Ben Gibbard and his increasingly skinny body performed "Cath..." on Conan O'Brien. We've heard the Narrow Stairs song in various forms -- solo acoustic, Daytrotter, Autumn de Wilde -- but never on Conan's stage. The big guy's post-performance assessment: "I love that song." As O'Brien also notes, DCFC are heading out on tour soon with Neil Young, which is where Ben borrowed his haircut/burns. You can watch them in action at Hulu. If you want to see them with Neil Young or by their lonesome, we have their upcoming tour dates:
