LCD Soundsystem Cover Alan Vega

We'd spoken briefly about LCD Soundsystem's Vinyl Saturday 12" featuring a cover of "Bye Bye Bayou" from Alan Vega's eponymous 1980 solo debut. Talk is cheap. Take a listen at HypeM. (While you're there, compare/contrast with the original.) Remember, Record...  CONTINUE READING LCD SOUNDSYSTEM COVER ALAN VEGA»

James Murphy Explains Why The Internet Is Funny

The LCD head rhapsodizes about art and Nazis, laments social networking's descent into marketing/manipulation, and finds Facebook to be the most "idiotic and hilarious" of them all. So he posted this awesome rant on MySpace instead. (via P4K). ...  CONTINUE READING JAMES MURPHY EXPLAINS WHY THE INTERNET IS FUNNY»

Kermit The Frog: "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down"

The fact that James Murphy is behind (in more ways than one) this amusing Simon Owens-directed video starring the downtrodden frog, earns LCD Soundsystem's main man points for admitting he totally sounds like Kermie on the Sound Of Sliver closer....  CONTINUE READING KERMIT THE FROG: "NEW YORK, I LOVE YOU BUT YOU'RE BRINGING ME DOWN" »

New LCD Soundsystem Video - "Big Ideas"

LCD Soundsystem Have "Big Ideas" For Sony Pictures' 21

The man who wrote a music for a shoe company has decided to lob his Kelly Kapoor approved efforts in a slightly more conventional direction: a movie company. Sony Pictures is releasing 21 (as in never always double down on 11) this March and has commissioned LCD to write a track, which they entitled "Big Ideas." Other artists on the soundtrack include Rihanna, UNKLE, MGMT, Amon Tobin (contributing old songs), Mark Ronson and Kasabian (doing most likely a Motowned version of Kasabian's "Lost Souls Forever") and D Sardy & Duke Spirit's Liela Moss (doing something we've never heard of). As for the movie, the official site says it's about "Five Students Who Changed The Game Forever" and has a page where you can click on the starring actors' faces (Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, Laurence Fishburne, etc.) hear them speak, and learn all about how they got caught up in this crazy, crazy world of blackjack to begin with. Looks forgettable, but points for not making the five students walk into a casino to "All My Friends."

Big Day Out 2008

This past weekend a couple Big Days Out took pace down under (Friday in Aukland and Sunday at the Gold Coast) with LCD Soundsystem, Björk, Rage Against The Machine, Battles, Kate Nash, Billy Bragg, Silverchair, and Arcade Fire, among others. Rage's set (along with Tom Morello's solo turn as the Night Watchman) was expectedly political, but doesn't sound like Win Butler was caught making Obama orations -- or, at least not in the clip we found of "Black Mirror." As far as Björk and Co., they kept the ass-kicking on stage. The next Big Day stop's this Friday in Sydney.

Pitchfork's Top 100 Tracks Of 2007

P4K's Top 100 Tracks Of 2007 covers the gamut. We have a few complaints -- "Myriad Harbour," "Mistaken For Strangers," and No Age's "Neck Escaper" way too low-- but there are enough solids to offset the misses. For instance, good...  CONTINUE READING PITCHFORK'S TOP 100 TRACKS OF 2007»
