Is Michael Jackson's "This Is It" A Rip-Off?

Paul Anka, who co-wrote a very similar song with the dearly departed zombie clown in '83, thinks so. The '60s crooner says Jacko stole the master tape, changed the title, and please give him all the money. Compare versions here....  CONTINUE READING IS MICHAEL JACKSON'S "THIS IS IT" A RIP-OFF?»

All Points West Wet 2009 In Photos

When APW presented its inaugural festival last year, we weren't alone in taking issue with the experience: lack of food options, a fair but generally recycled undercard which played more like "a bunch of bands opening for Radiohead," an extremely...  CONTINUE READING ALL POINTS WEST WET 2009 IN PHOTOS»

New Michael Jackson (Feat. Akon) - "Hold My Hand"

Michael's still hugging and rearing children (he said "rearing children"), Akon still loves throwing them offstage and dry humping them onstage, and that's why I get so moved when I hear them sing the lyric "hold my hand" in this...  CONTINUE READING NEW MICHAEL JACKSON (FEAT. New Old Michael Jackson - "Got The Hots"

As this point, his nose begging to fall off again, the last thing you'd want is MJ singing about "the hots" he's got "tonight," but there was a time when his organs were more affixed to his body. The previously unreleased, funky, bubbling, I-wanna-set-you-free-girl tune is a Thriller demo from the Japanese version of Thriller 25. We love the visuals selected by the person who uploaded the song to YouTube. The magic is on its way.

Patterson Hood On Thriller

Last week we linked to a stream of Thriller 25 (in stores today), which includes a 25-year-old rarity ("For All Time") with new vocals, and 2008 collabs with will.i.am, Fergie, and folks who aren't even in Black Eyed Peas. If you're not yet sick of MJ nostalgia, read Patterson Hood's "Smell the Glove," the Drive-By Trucker's column in the new Paste. "For the record, I consider 'Billie Jean' one of the definitive singles of the entire Rock Era and a piece of pop songwriting at its best." Also, he thinks Off The Wall is the best MJ album? Maybe it's a Southern thing.

Stream Thriller: 25th Anniversary Edition

Silly us for celebrating the MJ pop-opus's 25th Anniversary on its actual 25th Anniversary. As the months since have demonstrated, Michael (or at least, Epic) was thinking of commemorating the more round and wholesome 25-and-one-quarter-or-so anniversary of the classic LP, by giving it a deluxe reissue jam-packed with terrible remakes. Hit the KISS FM site for a full stream of the album, including the reworkings from Fergie, Akon, and Kanye West. And if you're wondering if we can simultaneously trash will.i.am's "The Girl Is Mine '08" and make a timely political reference ... yes we can.

Thriller - 25th Anniversary Edition is out 2/12/08. Don't even think about giving it for Valentine's Day.
