When Ted Leo and The Best Show'a Tom Scharpling get together, they expect you to give it up. Last time we checked in with the pair they wanted your money (for the WFMU's 50th anniversary pledge drive). This time out Tom and Ted demanded your intellectual property -- your poetry, your prose, your tossed off couplets fantasizing of hipster extermination -- to constitute the lyrics to a song especially written for and aired on last night's The Best Show. It's some pretty heavy shit. Peruse the first verse and chorus:
Big Steve is on the drum set calling it four by four /
Little Jimmy jamming the six string, giving the people more /
Violence bringing the low end 'cause that's all he knows how to do /
My name is Ted, that's what I said, and the Western world will perish in 15 years /Then in the year 2016 when the world is clean /
Clean of this hipster scene /
All the ghosts will scream for what their souls have seen /
And the tapas they could have been eating /But the world is in the turlet so we're all gonna die
Not trying to insult intelligences here, but just in case: urban definition of "turlet." The music rocks (but it's Ted, so of course it does). And the dreams of dead hipsters, outspoken longing for Spanish food, potty slang ... really it's called "The Comment Thread Troll Song."
