Chicago's Nachtmystium initially started pushing outward on the boundaries of black metal in 2006, with the expansive, psychedelic Instinct: Decay. Their sonic explorations were intensified on 2008's magnificent and unclassifiable Assassins: Black Meddle Part 1, and exponentially more so on 2010's Addicts: Black Meddle Part 2, which drifted so far from the genre as to be something else entirely. The follow-up to Addicts, Silencing Machine, is being loudly heralded as the band's return to capital-B-capital-M Black Metal. The lo-fi cover art, which bears no small resemblance to Burzum's Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, provides at least some evidence of the band's intentions in this regard. "I Wait In Hell" -- the fourth track to be released prior to the album itself -- is further evidence still. Check it out.
