Hey, America! It's pretty OK sometimes! After about a year of constant political nail-biting, after daily visits to FiveThirtyEight became the only calming ritual keeping us in touch with our sanity, we're finally ready to say that we don't live in a country full of bloodthirsty Randian billionaires who want the rest of us to fight over table scraps and avuncular rape-apologist creeps. We still have those guys, but they overwhelmingly lost last night, and that's enough to leave a whole mess of us feeling patriotic this morning.

Last night, Sufjan Stevens must've been feeling that particular vibe last night, since he chose the evening to post an orchestral, drawn-out, vaguely fractured, altogether wholehearted rendition of our national anthem. Listen to it below. And also, listen to his version of the Christmas carol "Angels We Have Heard On High" from his forthcoming seasonal-music EP box Silver & Gold: Songs For Christmas.
