Shugo Tokumaru – “Katachi” (Stereogum Premiere)
The Japanese psych-pop savant Shugo Tokumaru recorded his new album In Focus? in his home studio, slathering on, per his press release, “an average of twenty instruments” per song. Then he got the thing mastered at Abbey Road. These are boss moves, and the album track “Katachi” does not want for confidence. It’s a lush, skittering piece of bliss with a flute part that’s pure butterfly-flutter. Listen below.
