Chelsea Wolfe – “Flatlands (Lust For Youth Remix)”
The original version of Chelsea Wolfe’s “Flatlands” (from her terrific acoustic collection Unknown Rooms) is a somber, mournful dirge full of swelling violins and built on Wolfe’s gorgeous, expressive voice. As “re-imagined” by Swedish electro-goth act Lust For Youth, the song is transformed into … an electro-goth track. LFY almost completely changes the structure and tenor of the song, making Wolfe’s voice just another percussion instrument, her wide-open vocals synthesized into pixelated notes bouncing around like a Pong ball. I think it’s spookier than the original, if plainly less intense. Give it a spin.
