Anika – “In The City” (Chromatics Cover)
Anika’s follows up her 2011 self-titled debut with an eponymous EP and its first single is a cover of Chromatics’ “In The City.” On it Anika takes her brand of post-punk/no wave and rubs it all over the song. Add a little bit of her throaty, polished Nico cooing and synths that sound gleaned from Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” — don’t roll your eyes; that song is actually pretty killer — and you have a rendition of “In The City” primed for when Downtown New York was first bubbling. It was produced by Geoff Barrow and Beak>, and you can check it out below.
Anika EP is out in April on Stones Throw.
