In May 1983, the Smiths, not yet signed to Rough Trade, were getting ready to record their debut album when they recorded a rehearsal, just one mic in a room. The quality isn’t great, but songs like “What Difference Does It Make?” and “Hand In Glove” are still pretty instantly recognizable. Smiths drummer Mike Joyce was hoping to release the rehearsal semi-officially, but he was having legal clearances getting that done, so now he’s just thrown the entire 39-minute thing on YouTube.
