Watch Ryan Adams Improvise “Loaf Of Bread” At Teenager Cancer Trust Gig
A couple of nights ago, Ryan Adams played at London’s Royal Albert Hall for Noel Gallagher’s Teenage Cancer Trust benefit. This was his first show with a full backing band in about four years, and for the occasion, he put together an all-killer crew that included veteran hands like Benmont Tench and Don Was. At one point, as The Mirror reports, someone in the audience shouted out a request that Adams misheard as “loaf of bread,” so, on the spot, he and his band improvised an entire tender, ridiculous song called “Loaf Of Bread.” Their ability to negotiate spur-of-the-moment key changes is pretty amazing; this thing sounds like a fully professional piece of work in all aspects except title and lyrics. Watch a fan-made video below.
You can also hear two new songs Adams debuted — “In The Shadows” and “This Is Where We Meet In My Mind” — at CoS.
If Adams can do something like this off the dome, it sort of puts his mid-’00s prolific period into perspective, doesn’t it?
