Riff Raff To Play “James Franko” On One Life To Live
Warning: The levels of meta weirdness in this post may hurt your brain. The movie star James Franco likes engaging in attention-grabbing art-pranks, and his most famous one probably came when he joined the cast of the soap opera General Hospital for a surprisingly long time, including a period where he moved production of the show to an art gallery. More recently, Franco played a cornrowed absurdist white rapper in the ridiculous and great movie Spring Breakers, and he may have based his character in part on the viral rap goofball Riff Raff. Riff Raff hasn’t been too happy at not receiving more credit for the role, and now he’s got an extremely oblique and strange form of revenge.
On the soap opera One Life To Live, Riff Raff will now send up Franco’s General Hospital stint, playing an art dealer named “James Franko,” as HipHopDX reports (via Pitchfork). Riff Raff already filmed his part in Connecticut, and it’s scheduled to air on Hulu 5/7. I wonder how the regular audience of soap operas feels about these stories being turned into inside-joke postmoderinist stunts.
