Mac DeMarco – “My Kind Of Woman” Video
We already know that Mac DeMarco likes to dress up in his videos, but with “My Kind Of Woman,” he leaves behind parody for a more artistic venture. In the opening shot of the Alex Lill-directed clip, DeMarco is featured sloppily applying red lipstick. This kind of imagery immediately reminds me one of two movie scenes: Steve Buscemi as a Danny McGrath in Billy Madison and one of Dennis Hopper’s most jarring scenes in Blue Velvet. Turns out, Lill intended to invoke the latter for this video, dressing DeMarco as Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rosellini) from Velvet. It flips the sweet, hazy song for a lover into an ode to one’s feminine side. Check it out below.
