Vår – “Into Distance”
The first track we heard from Vår’s forthcoming debut LP, No One Dances Quite Like My Brothers, gave some indication that Elias Rønnenfelt primary non-Iceage project might be even better (or at least as good as) Iceage itself. And the just-released “Into Distance” strongly reinforces that premise. “Into Distance” is a decidedly acoustic version of Vår — there are no chilly synths or programmed beats here; it’s all acoustic-guitar strum, kick-drum stomp, swells of brass, and Rønnenfelt’s dark, urgent vocals. It’s terrific, and totally unexpected. Listen.
No One Dances Quite Like My Brothers is out 5/14 via Sacred Bones. On 5/25, Vår and Pharmakon are doing a special collaborative performance at the Rink in Greenpoint. Cop tix here.
