Last week we talked to Smith Westerns frontman Cullen Omori about his band’s forthcoming LP, Soft Will, which is definitely (for me, anyway) one of the summer’s most anticipated new releases. We’ve already heard two tracks from the album — “Varsity” and “3AM Spiritual” — and they’re both excellent. Now, we’ve got one more before the thing drops in earnest in two weeks. “Idol” is a gauzy, blissful update of ’70s AM-radio pop: a little bit ELO, a little bit Big Star. Yeah, it’s pretty great.
