Watch The Postal Service Play The Colbert Report With Jenny Lewis
Back when the Postal Service recorded Give Up a decade ago, Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello weren’t famous enough to warrant TV time, either together or as separate entities. But time and growing cult status have a way of changing things, and the reunited Postal Service made their TV debut on last night’s episode of The Colbert Report. Gibbard and Tamborello sat for an interview, as did the former Rilo Kiley leader Jenny Lewis, who has apparently been granted full-time membership status and whose tracksuit game is out of control. (She also gets the best moment in the interview, when Stephen Colbert resurrects a Toys R Us commercial from her child-actor days.) Then the band played two songs: The classic “Such Great Heights” on TV and the never-released-until-recently “A Tattered Line Of String.” Watch the interview and both performances below.
The 10th-anniversary Give Up reissue is out now on Sub Pop.
