Mount Kimbie – “You Took Your Time” Video
It seemed a comfortable fit a couple months ago when the reserved and evocative English production duo Mount Kimbie teamed up with the more aggressive singer-songwriter King Krule for the track “You Took Your Time.” Now, the song (which appears the duo’s latest album, Cold Spring Fault Less Youth) has found its way into the hands of a third, equally strong collaborator: Marcus Söderlund, the Swedish filmmaker most famous for the xx’s “VCR” music video.
The duo tapped Söderlund to direct the video for “You Took Your Time” with some hesitation, but seems to have made the right move. Shot in a soft black and white, the video follows several anonymous characters through an uneven, semi-urban landscape. Cars burn, plastic bags toss in the wind – and although light invades every room, Söderlund’s clip (and the hazy, grueling track underneath it) is a rather dark affair. Watch it now.
