Twin Sister’s Andrea Estella Replaces Leighton Meester In Veronica Mars Movie
And now for the latest step on Twin Sister’s march into unexpected pop cultural corners. Last year, Kendrick sampled the languorous Long Island quintet’s “Meet The Frownies” on good kid, m.A.A.d city’s Dr. Dre-produced “The Recipe,” though this step’s a bit bigger, and much more filmic: Lead singer Andrea Estella will replace Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester in the cultishly adored TV series Veronica Mars’s Kickstarter-enabled big-screen adaptation. Leighton was supposed to reprise her small role from the show (she appeared in two episodes) as Carrie Bishop, a character Estella’s called a “messed-up rock princess.” According to an email sent to the film’s Kickstarter’s backers, Leighton couldn’t commit, show creator Rob Thomas wanted to use Twin Sister in the film anyway and needed an actress who could sing, all around and away we go Andrea was cast. Says Estella: “I watched the Veronica Mars pilot and was totally into it! It’s the exact kind of show I would get obsessed with, so it’s been a bit of dream to be in a movie, especially being a messed-up rock princess. How could I say no? I think the VM fans are going to be very happy!”
Congrats to Andrea for this role, and also for discovering what might be her new favorite show, and also to all of the Veronica Mars fans who are about to discover what might be their new favorite band. For a look at Estella’s screen presence in action, watch their video for “Bad Street,” below:
