Watch Kanye’s Surprise Performance At OVO Fest 2013
Last night, Drake continued with what’s becoming a Toronto tradition, bringing his fourth annual OVO Festival to his hometown. The show hit a bit of a road bump when Frank Ocean, slated to headline one of the two days, had to cancel for health reasons. But for a one-day festival, Drake sure brought it; the setlist of his headlining set is simply ridiculous. After an opening performance from James Blake, Drake brought guest star after guest star to the stage, putting every Summer Jam performance I’ve ever seen to shame: Big Sean! Wale! The reunited surviving members of TLC! J. Cole! Miguel! Diddy and Mase! A$AP Rocky! And he also took the moment to shut down some talk of brewing feuds.
Lately, rumor has had it that Drake and the Weeknd, once friends and collaborators, had fallen out when the Weeknd had opted not to sign with Drake’s label. Well, that’s apparently not the case. Drake started his set with “Crew Love,” with Abel Tesfaye helping out, and the two gave each other a big hug. And there’s also been talk of a slow-building cold war between Lil Wayne’s Young Money crew, Drake in particular, and Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music. But apparently, they’re all cool with each other. Late in the set, Kanye came to the stage to do “New Slaves,” “All Of The Lights,” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” He also had some kind words for Drake: “Me and Hov would’ve never made Watch The Throne if this nigga wasn’t putting pressure on us like that.” (That’s pretty much the highest level of compliment Kanye ever pays.) Meanwhile, Drake called Kanye “one of my mentors.” Watch a pretty good fan-made video of Kanye’s appearance below.
