Joanna Newsom has been cast in Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film Inherent Vice, screen adaptation of reclusive novelist Thomas Pynchon’s foray into pulp fiction of the same name. The story is about a mediocre, pothead detective as he investigates the kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend. There is no word on who Newsom will be playing, as production has been tight-lipped about the details of the film and cast members have only been confirmed when photos from the set pop up, like the one of Newsom above. Acting alongside her will be Joaquin Phoenix, who appeared in PTA’s The Master, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Martin Short, and more. Newsom is no stranger to acting, as she’s appeared in an episode of Portlandia, as well as in MGMT’s video for “Kids.”
