Pelican – “Deny The Absolute”
We had Pelican’s “Immutable Dusk,” at No. 10 in our Black Market rundown of July’s best metal songs. That track comes from an upcoming longplayer, Forever Becoming, but this even-newer number from the Chicago post-metal instrumentalists is lifted from a 7″ due out next week (an alternate version of which will also appear on the LP). “Deny The Absolute” is Pelican at their catchiest and most charged; there’s not much space for meditation or expansive sonic vistas, but the guitars roar and race like muscle cars. I liked “Immutable Dusk” a lot, and I like this even more. Listen.
Pelican’s “Deny The Absolute”/”The Truce” is out 8/20 via the Mylene Sheath. Forever Becoming is out via Southern Lord on 10/15.
