Watch Footage From Prince’s Surprise NYC Show That Ended At 6AM Yesterday
Extremely late on Sunday night or very early on Monday morning (depending on who you ask), recent Twitter-joiner Prince played a show a Tribeca’s 500-capacity venue City Winery from 3AM until just before 6 in the morning. It followed a week-long residency by his former band the New Power Generation, who accompanied him on-stage as did his current group 3rd Eye Girl, NPG vocalist Shelby J., Sly & the Family Stone’s Larry Graham, R&B upstart Luke James, Doug E. Fresh, and Cee-Lo Green, who had just played a reunion show with Atlanta rap icons Goodie Mob. A strict and increasingly familiar No Phone policy prevented any show footage from appearing online, but the artist formerly known as the Artist has culled together a montage of the insane night. You can check that out, as well as the set list, below.
For more details on the performance, read NY Mag’s culture site Vulture’s in-depth recap.
Prince is slated to release new single “Breakfast Can Wait” with 3rd Eye Girl soon. Check out a snippet and the Dave Chappelle-featuring artwork here.
