Lady Lazarus – “Never Ever Anna” & “Envy Of The Dead” (Stereogum Premiere)
Sylvia Plath’s poem “Lady Lazarus” inspired a novel, a Mad Men episode and musical artist of the same name. The latter, aka Los Angeles multi-instrumentalist Melissa Ann Sweat, is about to embark on some West Coast tour dates in support of this year’s All My Love In Half Light. Before she hits the road, she’s sharing free downloads of B-sides “Envy Of The Dead” and “Never Ever Anna,” both of which are piano-and-vocal performances as hauntingly somber and spacious as we’ve come to expect from Sweat. Fans of Youth Lagoon at its sparest and Radiohead’s stark, home-recorded “How I Made My Millions” will be mesmerized.
Lady Lazarus also recently released a video for the Half Light track “Argosy,” so why don’t you click play on that while you peruse the tour dates and download both tracks below.
The self-released All My Love In Half Light is out now. Here are those tour dates:
10/24 Berkeley, CA @ The Starry Plough w/ Antonette Goroch & more TBA
