Band Of Horses have been making soaring, country-inflected festival-rock for so long that it's almost shocking to hear frontman Ben Bridwell's high-lonesome twang in any other context. But Bridwell has a new low-key solo thing going on. Operating under the name Birdsmell, he's posted a few stripped-back acoustic songs on Soundcloud, and I have to say, they sound really good. "Throw My Mess Around" in particular. He'll also spend a couple of weeks in November on a short tour of Southeastern U.S. venues, and this whole thing could be exactly what Bridwell needed; the quieter setting suits his voice. Below, listen to "Throw My Mess Around," "Why Were You Born?," and "Tulsa."
Those dates:
11/02 - Carrboro, NC @ Cat's Cradle
11/04 - Charlotte, NC @ Evening Muse
11/06 - Asheville, NC @ The Lab
11/08 - Knoxville, TN @ The Bowery
11/09 - Chattanooga, TN @ Rhythm & Brews
11/11 - Birmingham, AL @ Bottletree
11/13 - Atlanta, GA @ The Earl
11/15 - Athens, GA @ 40 Watt
(via Pitchfork)
Bridwell will sell a 7" single of "Why Were You Born?" and "Tulsa" at the shows.
