Watch Girl Talk And Freeway Debut New Song “Tolerated”
Greg Gillis, bka Girl Talk, and rapper Freeway are slated to release a free collaborative EP, Broken Ankles, this fall. Philly Freezer fans fret not — this is not typical Girl Talk fare; the beats are constructed from, according to a press release, “a wider range of samples, some more obscure than what [Gillis] would normally use in his Top 40-focused work. He also experimented with different techniques of sample manipulation and incorporated more original instrumentation.” The EP will “explore some ideas slightly removed from his trademark hyper-mashup style,” unlike his last full-length, 2010’s All Day. Freeway is no stranger to working with one producer on a project, having worked on 2010 full-length The Stimulus Package solely with Seattle-based beatmaker Jake-One and an EP with Statik Selektah in 2011. The Gillis-Freeway matchup works, too, which you see below in a live performance of track “Tolerated” from a secret show last weekend at Brooklyn Bowl in NYC.
