Son Lux – “Lost It To Trying (Mouths Only Lying)” (Stereogum Premiere)
Son Lux’s Lanterns, currently streaming at NPR, is looking like one of fall’s most fascinating new releases. Maybe you know Lux, aka Ryan Lott, from s / s / s, his collaboration with fellow Anticon associate Serengeti and fellow epic twee-damaged orchestral folk-rocker Sufjan Stevens. But Lantern singles like the grandly frenetic turmoil composite “Lost It To Trying” suggest the New York-based Indiana native will soon be best-known for his own material. Today we premiere an alternate version of that song that re-imagines it as a spacious, ghostly choral affair. Stream it below.
Lanterns is out 10/29 via Joyful Noise, and it features contributions from Punch Brothers’ Chris Thile, Antlers singer Peter Silberman, and Asthmatic Kitty artist DM Stith.
