Emily Jane White – “Keeley” (Stereogum Premiere)
Last week, just in time for Halloween, we heard Emily Jane White’s spine-tingling, goth-tinged Marissa Nadler collab “Faster Than The Devil,” which Tom called “a windblown, meditative hymn of a song.” Now comes the next single from White’s forthcoming Blood Lines, the string-bathed stunner “Keeley.” It sounds like the burning core of a Bat For Lashes or Chelsea Wolfe song stripped of all its rhythmic bombast, left to passionately crackle with minimal percussion and maximum melodrama. It’ll strike a chord with Kate Bush fans and Tori Amos zealots alike, and it’s good enough that you might even like it if this sort of mournful theatricality isn’t really your thing. Find out below.
Blood Lines is out 11/19 via Important Records.
