Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra – “Austerity Blues” (Excerpt)
The politically charged, mystique-laden post-rock band currently known as Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra (perhaps you know them as A Silver Mt Zion, The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band, or Thee Silver Mountain Reveries) hasn’t released a new album since Kollaps Tradixionales almost four years ago. That’s about to change in January when Constellation Records unveils the band’s magnificently named seventh LP Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything.
This is the group’s first release since paring down to a quintet featuring guitar, bass, drums, and two violinists. Its tracklist wonderfully and unexpectedly includes a song called “Rains Through The Roof At Thee Grande Ballroom (For Capital Steez),” apparently a tribute to Capital Steez, the Joey Bada$$/Pro Era affiliate who committed suicide last year. An excerpt from lead single “Austerity Blues” suggests the orchestral swell and psychedelic freakouts are still in order and that the songs are still super long and appropriately mountainous. There’s also an album trailer, which begins with a child proclaiming, “We make a lot of noise because we love each other” and ends with an upside down Canadian flag and the phrase “What a disgrace.” OK, then! Fuck off, get free, and bathe in light below.
Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything is out 1/21 via Constellation.
