Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra – “Rains Thru The Roof At Thee Grande Ballroom (For Capital Steez)”
You might not expect the members of Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra, the mysterious Canadian post-rock troupe and Godspeed You! Black Emperor offshoot, to be hip-hop heads, but apparently they are. The band will release their new album Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything next month, and we’ve posted an excerpt of their song “Austerity Blues.” But another of the songs on the album is a tribute to Capital Steez, the young Brooklyn rapper (and member of Joey Bada$$’s Pro Era crew) who committed suicide a year ago. The song is called “Rains Thru The Roof At Thee Grande Ballroom (For Capital Steez),” and the Belgian radio show Sterrenplaten played it the other day. It’s a soft, sad, dramatically orchestrated track, and you can hear it below; it’s the first song played in the embedded broadcast stream.
