Blood Orange – “West Drive (Profit Vocal Dub)”
Last month, Dev Hynes released the silky, woozy, generally excellent Cupid Deluxe, his second album as Blood Orange, and it was one of our favorite LPs of the year. Today, Hynes posted a non-album track, “West Drive (Profit Vocal Dub),” on Soundcloud, writing that it’s “1 of roughly a million cuts that didn’t make it onto the album.” If that means we get a million random Blood Orange songs posted to Soundcloud in the months ahead, all the better. “West Drive” is a slick ’80s-style synth-funk track with a vocal from Samantha Urbani, the leader of Friends and Hynes’s girlfriend. It’s a good song, and when you consider that this one didn’t make the cut, that should give you some idea — if you needed an idea — of how bulletproof Cupid Deluxe is. Listen below.
Cupid Deluxe is out now on Domino.
