U2, Coldplay, Justin Timberlake Nominated For Best Song Golden Globes
This morning, the nominations for this year’s Golden Globe Awards were announced, and they had a few surprises. For instance, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association apparently takes the Ron Howard racing movie Rush more seriously than anyone could’ve guessed. There weren’t any real left turns in the Best Original Song nominations, but the category did feature a few artists that Stereogum tends to cover. Coldplay’s “Atlas,” from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and U2’s “Ordinary Love,” from Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, will lock horns with Taylor Swift’s “Sweeter Than Fiction,” from One Chance, and “Let It Go,” which Idira Menzel sang for Disney’s Frozen. But we at Stereogum will be rooting for the Inside Llewyn Davis novelty folk song “Please Mr. Kennedy,” which Justin Timberlake, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver sang in the movie. Below, watch the movie scene in which all three perform it, and marvel at Driver’s delivery of the phrase “outer space” because it is magnificent.
Meanwhile, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes frontman Alex Ebert is nominated for his All Is Lost score. See all the nominations at the Huffington Post. The awards will be handed out 1/12.
