Oddisee – “Invisible Walls” (Stereogum Premiere)
The D.C.-born, Brooklyn-based rapper-producer’s warm, psychedelic LP The Beauty In All was one of my favorite rap albums of this year, and early next year, he’ll appear on Mandala Vol. 1: Polysonic Flows, a new compilation from his Mello Music Group label. The comp showcases what’s becoming an increasingly impressive roster of figures from the artier wings of underground rap; its contributors include Quelle Chris, Mr. Lif, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and Blueprint. The solo Oddissee track “Invisible Walls,” in which Oddissee rides his own gorgeously zoned-out beat, is a strong indicator of why you should be paying attention to this guy. Listen below.
You can download “Invisible Walls” for free at Bandcamp. Mandala Vol. 1: Polysonic Flows is out 1/28 on Mello Music Group; preorder the digital copy here or the CD here.
