Owls – “I’m Surprised…”
Young rockers nationwide are embracing the emo of yesteryear, but Owls are founding fathers of this shit, comprising four members of the pioneering Cap’n Jazz — including both Kinsella brothers, which is like having both John Adams and Samuel Adams on your Revolutionary War fantasy team. Owls released just one LP, appropriately entitled One, back in 2001. Now they’re set to release Two, and they’ve got a lead single to prove it. “I’m Surprised…” will surprise no one with its mixture of moody high-range vocals, layers of pretty guitar riffage, and a crunching rhythm section. It’s a fine return from some emo O.G.s, and you can stream it below.
