Q-Tip Developing Auto-Biographical TV Series With Leonardo DiCaprio & Jonah Hill
The Native Tongues movement of the late ’80s and early ’90s was an exciting time for hip-hop, a new infusion of eccentric (and Afrocentric!) ideas that helped evolve rap toward the positive and the abstract. Now the Abstract himself, Q-Tip, is in the works to produce a TV show about the era with help from The Wolf Of Wall Street costars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill. Deadline reports that DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way is producing the project, and no writer is attached yet. The drama is expected to draw on Q-Tip’s experiences with A Tribe Called Quest and other Native Tongues groups such as De La Soul and the Jungle Brothers. Explains Deadline, “The show will reflect on the stories of their friendship and how their music played a part in culture then and influenced the music of today.” No other details have surfaced for now, but what are the chances this show isn’t called Beats, Rhymes, And Life? I, for one, look forward to the episode where Tribe learns industry rule #4,080.
In other Q-Tip news, he says he’s co-producing the next Kanye West album with Rick Rubin.
